The Laysan Albatross - FRIENDS OF THE NORTH SHORE LIBRARY AT PRINCEVILLE'S SPEAKER PROGRAM PROUDLY PRESENTS: The Laysan Albatross  by Hob Osterlund - Wednesday, February 8, 2012  6-7:30PM. Everything about a Laysan albatross is superlative:  deep-eyed, long-lived, far-traveled.  Native to the Hawaiian Islands, the albatross stopped nesting in the main islands once they became inhabited by humans.  A pair returned to Kauai in the late 1970s, and their numbers have gradually grown since.  Now their primary nesting colonies on Midway Islands are threatened with sea level rise. Kauai has three key elements:  elevated bluffs, an absence of mongoose, and people who care.  Because of these, Kauai may prove to be their Noah's Ark.  Please join us for this annual presentation by amateur ornithologist and award-winning journalist/photographer, Hob Osterlund. 4343 Emmalani Drive, Princeville, HI 96722. For more information, call 826-4310 or visit http://www.princevillelibrary.com/.

Find mySchool on Kaua'I - The commitment to a quality education for all of Hawaii's children began more than 160 years ago, when Hawaii's great monarch, King Kamehameha III, established a statewide public school system. Since that time, we have continued the journey in pursuit of excellence and equity in education. Our standards set the course, while students, families, and community fill the sails with expectation as we voyage with the treasure of bright, young minds ready to lead the way to the future. http://doe.k12.hi.us/myschool/map_kauai.htm.
